History

We can trace our roots to the founding members of the Manchester Stock Exchange, which was established in 1836. William Henry Ireland began operating his stockbroking business from the Commercial Offices in Cross Street, Manchester, and in the 1980s the company took over J Stephens & Co before floating on AIM in 2000. A series of acquisitions followed, which spread the company across the UK and even into Australia with the acquisition of 51% of DJ Carmichael in 2006.

In September 2010 Paul Compton was appointed Chief Executive. He immediately embarked on a refocusing of the group onto the UK and specifically onto two activities - private financial services and corporate broking.

The Group is now well financed from internal resources and declared its first profit for many years at the interim stage on 18 July 2011. It aims to provide a personalised financial services function whilst, at the same time, representing around 50 quoted companies with good growth prospects.
