Bristol is a major commercial and financial centre with companies in the Engineering (BAE Systems, Rolls Royce), Financial Services (Lloyds Bank), Leisure and Tourism (the Eden Project), Procurement (MOD) and Research (Hewlett-Packard) sectors. The South West peninsula includes the 7 counties of Gloucestershire, Avon, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Wiltshire, contributes over 8% to UK GVA (gross value added) and is an area of above average wealth and low unemployment.
Approximately 85 south west companies are listed on AIM or the Main Market. The region benefits from a competitive private equity presence and a thriving angel investor network represented by SWAIN, xenos and a business incubator, SETsquared which is a collaboration between the private sector and Universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey. Other major universities and centres of excellence are at Cardiff, and Swansea. Bristol also is a major regional office for the Business Growth Fund.
The Bristol office provides full-service private client stock broking (discretionary, advisory & execution-only), wealth planning, corporate finance, institutional broking and equity research. It benefits from a city-centre location, ease of access from M4, M5, and by rail, with abundant parking close by.
We provide a full corporate and lead advisory service to companies and their shareholders looking to access sources of equity and debt capital, particularly through a listing on the capital markets. We are well connected to the investment and entrepreneurial community through our relationships with listed companies and companies reaching listing quality as well as investors and professional advisers. Each quarter we produce the South West Sharewatch which charts the share price performance of all listed companies in the region.
The Corporate Finance team led the IPOs of Wessex Exploration (WSX) and Bluebird Energy (BBE) on AIM, raising £5m to fund ongoing production and exploration. The team raised a further £12m in a recent placing for Wessex Exploration.
